Find true Chinese Love today

“Chinese girls are the most beautiful girls in the world” - Israeli music

It seemed surreal that after coming back from a long discussion with a friend about a new phenomena of Israelis who are specifically looking for Asian girls in Israel, that I heard a new song on the 88FM radio channel (loosely translated from Hebrew) :

Danny Hadar - "Chinese girls"

"The Chinese girls,

the Chinese girls,

the Chinese girls,

are the most beautiful girls in the world.

I don’t understand the language,

I can’t stand for crap,

I don’t understand the language,

I don’t need to laugh over the jokes,

I don’t understand the language,

but who needs language?

And anyways, … blablabla

and anyways, … blablabla

and anyways,

everybody’s alone in the world,

alone in the world,

in the world,

alone,

and anyways,

living without love is challenging."

Chinese Speech [中國話]

In Taiwan, the female music trio S.H.E. recorded a song known as 中國話 (translation: Chinese speech) (see YouTube or I'm Vlog for the music video).

(BBC) While these three young women had a good time singing the song, some people were not amused. They thought that this song was praising China and fawning over the mainland Chinese market. In an age of de-sinofication in Taiwan, S.H.E. is praising "Chinese speech." Therefore, there were quite a number of Internet critiques, of which re-published some. These critics said that S.H.E. was currying favor with China and the song will have bad influence for the next generation in Taiwan. They were concerned that the fans of S.H.E. will grow up thinking that they speak "Chinese speech."

To give a sample, here is one of those critiques at Liberty Times:

S.H.E. has been in business for some years. But why did they choose to sing about 'Chinese speech' not sooner, not later but at this exact moment? If they say that it was unintentional and they were not trying to curry favor with the mainland Chinese market, who is going to believe them?

It is not wrong to want to make some money. Jay Chou's is a Chinese-themed song, but it does so from a cultural angle and avoids sensitive issues. Such an approach requires good literary techniques because it can become risible if done incorrectly. In the song 'Chinese speech', there is the sentence: "everybody is speaking Chinese and so the world is seriously listening to what we say." I agree that the netizens were right in their attacks.

First, even if many people speak Chinese, it has not gone to the point of 'the whole world' doing so. This sort of lack of humility is not a virtue for persons of Chinese descent.

Secondly, there are so many Chinese dialects. The language used by officials in the Beijing area is known as putonghua. If this is treated as the "Chinese speech," then the Cantonese, Fujianese, Hakka ... people will disagree. It is not very smart to please the Beijing people while offending the others.

Thirdly, since even the speech of the Chinese people cannot be called 'Chinese speech,' then what the people of Taiwan speak right now is obviously not 'Chinese speech.' So how can it be asserted: Chinese speech is 'our speech'?

Fourthly, if the people of Taiwan use Chinese speech, I must ask which 'China' does this refer to? China? Or Taiwan?

For your entertainment, there is also Johnny Neihu's NewsWatch: S.H.E looks like The Man to me at Taipei Times.

By the way, there is a spoof version of 'Chinese speech' in which the phrase 'Chinese speech 中國話 ' was replaced by 'Taiwan speech 台灣話' (see YouTube). S.H.E. does not have a problem with this spoof because they said that they encourage creativity.

The preceding is somewhat old news, but the item that has not received as much coverage is the response from Shi Jen-cheng (施人誠) who wrote the song's lyrics (copied from his blog):

[in translation]

Today, the newspaper that calls itself "liberty" seems to have lost its mind and is howling emotionally
they reported the ways in which our new song is inappropriate
they even use the title: "corrupting the next generation of Taiwan"

I was reading the online news of that newspaper this morning even as I laughed
then I got to the story about our double standards:
when we shot the music video on the mainland, the reporter was allowed to show bare feet
when we got back to Taiwan, we wouldn't allow that anymore
... when I saw this report, I nearly threw up my breakfast from too much laughter

can they find nothing more to say?
even this unconvincing dogshit is invoked as an excuse to attack us
they used two full pages to chase after this affair
could it be that they did not have enough space in the politics section
that they had to use the entertainment section as well?

my overall feeling is that Taiwan has entered the era of Cultural Revolution
the lyrics on a song can be scrutinized in an unlimited manner
are these people cultural police and cultural prison guards?
who are you to judge that my lyrics have bad ideology?
or corrupt the next generation?
who are you to judge that my lyrics are fragrant flowers? or poisonous weeds?

according to your ideology?
your ideology does not matter fart to me!!
in what way are you qualified to use your own standards to question me?
yesterday you posted big character posters by way of your special power as media
will a criticism session be coming up next?

you do this only because you are using the media for private purposes
you use this public media tool to help your own side and attack others
you have the nerve to claim to be for liberty

we don't know the whole truth about why this is happening
we will wait for further developments

I feel that the most laughable thing is
if the beliefs and the ideology that you promote
can be so easily dissolved and shaken by one popular song
is this your problem or mine?

if you dare, you can criticize the hundreds of thousands who wait for the Goddess of the Sea to pass through
in order to kneel down in front of the statue of the woman named Lin Mo-Niang from Meizhou
they are kneeling in front of a mainland Chinese person

if you dare, you can destroy all the cultural artifacts inside the National Palace Museum
because they all came from mainland China

if you dare, you can ban Chinese medicine and doctors
if you dare, you don't eat Peking duck, Mongolian barbeque meat, Wenzhou wonton, Fuzhou fishballs

Oh, such sorrow!
Taiwan has been torn apart over the past few years
politics is overflowing everywhere
there is only politics
there is nothing about people's livelihoods
there is nothing about the economy
there is nothing about vision
there is nothing about vista
there is nothing about goals

the beautiful island has become an island without hope

A Chinese Girl's Photoplay

The following story was found at Wenxue City, but its origins are uncertain. Was this a commercial project? a school project? a public service announcement? or a personal diary? Well, it doesn't matter really. If this was a true event, it was a positive thing; if this was a staged event, it is still a positive thing. (Added on August 1, 2006: She is the 缘梦解语 blogger!)
[in translation]
It is the summer vacation now. Today, I went down to the train station to see my classmate off. The place was busy and filled with thousands of strangers who miraculously came together in this place only to be dispersed all over the country later on.
After seeing my friend off, I and my camera-carrying friend wandered around. "Little sister ..." said a timid-sounding voice. I turned my head around and I saw an old lady eyeing the beverage container in my hand. I saw her backpack and the bag in her hand and I understood.
My drink was only half finished, so the old lady stood by my side and kept smiling to please me. I sighed in my heart and I sipped faster.
After I finished my drink, I handed the container over to her. Since I had nothing else to do anyway, I began to help her pick up garbage. Thanks to the 'quality' of our compatriots, I quickly picked up one whole bag of cans and bottles. The old lady was beaming with a big smile.
By comparison, this "garbage watchman" did not understand how things worked and waited next to the garbage receptables without reaping many rewards.
The old lady reaped a big harvest today and she held a container in each hand as she would not give up anything! Although she carried a heavy burden, it could not suppress her delight. When I saw how happy she was, I was happy too.
Since I saw that the load was too much for her, I offered to help her bring things home. On the way, the old lady told me that she has three sons. In order to help her oldest son to repay his gambling debts and the youngest son to pay for his wedding, she began to collect garbage. When I heard that, the garbage bag in my hand felt much more heavier ...
The old lady lived faraway in a remote and worn-down place. I only discovered then that this prosperous city actually contains a place like this.
Although it took only half a minute to walk through this trash-filled street, I felt that I had traveled back to half a century ago.
Finally, we reached the district in which the old lady lived. In this long lane, each family had stacks of garbage in front of their entrances. I used to think that the Pig Sty City in the movie <> was fictional, but that was nothing compared to the reality here!
The local residents build their own stoves for cooking, using only coal residues, wood chips and other combustible materials as fuel.
This is the most "wealthy" household in which the space under the bed was stuffed with "wealth". Yet I think that even the most avaracious miser could not sleep well in a house stuffed with wealth.
A lady that I met in the lane invited me to inspect her home. In a house full of garbage, she laughed proudly. According to the old lady, this is the wealthiest person in this area. Faced with these plain folks, I maintained my smile but inside I wanted to cry so badly ...
I went by a door in which a woman was sorting out the garbage. She asked the old lady how she did today.
Once the woman found out who I was, she felt close to me. Her child is attending university right now, and every RMB obtained from the garbage goes to pay for the costly tuition of an elite student.
The woman was vivacious. In her mind, the fate of the family will be altered as soon as her child graduates. I dared not tell her that the employment prospects for university graduates are not as good as before and the road ahead is still distant.
In the lane, a small boy attracted my attention. He was the only male that I spotted here. I hope that he will grow up with determination.
I am used to walking on roads made of concrete, bricks or marble. I am used to seeing the tall buildings, green trees and fountains in the city. As I walked through the mounds of garbage, I had mixed feelings ...
Our arrival disrupted the peace in this neighborhood. When the friendly women saw our camera, they took us to visit one resident.
In a dark house, we saw the oldest woman in this area. The sight was hard for me to describe with words.
Like all the friendly homeowners here, this old lady got up to greet me. Since she had severe spinal curvature, she could not raise her head.
The old woman is more than 80 years old. One of her sons is physically handicapped, and the other abandoned her as soon as he got married. The handicapped son rides a tricycle to make money while the old lady picks garbage. As she is old and has trouble walking, she can ony pick up things like plastic bags in the neighboring areas. She makes only several dozen RMB a month. She has lung problems, but she cannot afford to get treatment. So she is just living from day to day ...
Everything that I saw and heard here pained my heart. I could not bear to stay around there anymore. Before I left, I gave the allowance money that my mother gave me this morning to the old woman. As of now, her heartbreaking look is still spinning around in my mind!
As I was leaving, I turned around once again to look at this lane. Sadly, I discovered that while the crack in the middle of the lane was shallow, the chasm between this place and the outside world was very, very deep.
Then I got back into the busy streets of the city. Prosperity was everywhere and the colorful lights dressed up the city like an elegant woman covered with gold and silver ornaments. In the past, I was deeply immersed in this world and I was seduced by its elegance and refined atmosphere as I hung around the up-scale shopping malls and specialty stores. But how can I have the mood to do that today? I ask: While we are captivated by the allure of this elegant lady, how many of us remember the old mother who brought her child up?
So I went back to my own little world which I found to be still warm and comfortable. Yet, I did not have peace of mind. I wanted to make sure that what I saw today should not be my personal memory alone, because more netizens should see it too.
Yes, poverty and backwardness, pain and suffering, exist in reality in all the small corners that we have deliberately tried to forget. If you really want to, you can find them. But what can we do next?

I will always love you MTV -By Chinese girl

Will Always Love You ( 我永远爱你)

Lyrics:Dolly Parton
Music:Dolly Parton
Singer:Whitney Houston

If I should stay
I would only be in your way
So I'll go, but I know
I'll think of you every step of the way

And I will always love you
I will always love you
You, my darling you, you

Bitter sweet memories
That is all I'm taking with me
So goodbye, please don't cry
We both know I'm not what you need
And I will always love you
I will always love you

accompaniment(伴奏)

I hope life treats you kind
And I hope you have all you dreamed off
And I wish to you joy and happiness
But above all this I wish to you love
And I will always love you
I will always love you

Love Is The Answer-当你孤单你会想起谁(by pretty Chinese Girl)

Sofia Kallgren 索菲娅·格林 -《Love Is The Answer》

never thought i feel this way
but i almost lost my way
i was blind without a trace
I always had trust him being myself
but suddenly i quote for nothing
i was walking in the air
i was searching everywhere for a guidance for a plan
i was running in circles when no place to go
but so my word was trembling i had you

now i am right on my way closer each day
you shared my darkest moment
coz the road is so long to walk all alone
but you gave me strength
you've got to believe it
Love is the answer it heals soar heart
gives you the light when the night is dark
Love is the answer and love is forever
Love is what makes us going on

(music)
instead of wondering just why
your love brighten up the sky
like a flame that shows my way
and how it gives me hope
just look in your eyes
a feeling that i will keep forever
i live closer to my dreams
it's not only what it seems I am honest to my heart
i need to let the winter just pass away
i need to let the sunshine come and stay

now i am right on my way closer each day
you shared my darkest moment
coz the road is so long to walk alone
but you gave me strength
you've got to believe it
Love is the answer it heals soar heart
gives you the light when the night is dark
Love is the answer and love is forever
Love is what makes us going on

Love is the answer it heals soar heart
gives you the light when the night is dark
Love is the answer, love is forever and
Love is what makes us going on

Love is the answer, love is forever
Love is what makes us going on

You don't live here anymore(by chinese boy)

Often hides some dark with them before
And the days I've learn to love them more
Even though you're somewhere here beside
Stay away. You don't live here anymore

Everything has changed, everything's arranged
eversince you close the door
I'm stronger everyday since you went away.
I guess I will not cry anymore

Often hides some dark with them before
And the days I've learn to love them more
Even though you're somewhere here beside
Stay away. You don't live here anymore

I could've been captived all like it was before
when I thought our love was true
But everything's surreal.
That is how I feel.
So I painted all in blue

Lots of memories live inside on me
even if our love has gone
And maybe I was wrong
I thought I'd be so strong.
Now I stay here all alone

Often hides some dark with them before
And the days I've learn to love them more
Even though you're somewhere here beside
Stay away. You don't live here anymore

Sometimes when it's cold
I long for you to hold.
Now I think I realize
I have to change my mind,
leave my dreams behind
Cause you don't live here anymore

I have to change my mind,
leave my dreams behind
Cause you don't live here anymore
you don't live here anymore

Oh Life-后来(by pretty chinese girls)

whole life the wonder such you bring the beauty
i can see but i keep deep inside on it
oh life i feel that i can bring it again
in the world where love will still remain

choose your words make them whys
many things have produced(?) where we are
i am here
here with you
close your eyes let love heal the sorrow
once again i feel in life
i'm sure of this insight
and i need you more than ever
life's told me so much more
feel stronger than before of this feeling stay here forever
long ago i was blind
i thought the love was so waste here to stay
but we walked all the way
and we said good bye
even though i knew i loved you still
suddenly you were gone and she was in your rounds
its picture i remember
i was lost could not be saved my life just ran away
i only wish that we could start over
but true love will find its way
now i love it seemed to stay
i lost it once and now i found the way to live again

oh life i wonder such you bring the beauty
i can see but i keep deep inside on it
oh life i feel that i can bring it again
in the world where love will still remain

but true love will find its way
now i love it seemed to stay
i lost it once now i found the way to live again

oh life the wonder such you bring the beauty
i can see but i keep deep inside on it
oh life i feel that i can bring it again
in the world where love will still remain
mmm....
in the world where love will still remain

Because I'm a Girl (by beautiful Chinese girl )

*jini* i just cant understand the hearts of men
they tell you they want you and then they leave you

*mini* this is the first time, you're special
i believed those words and i was so happy

[chorus] *jini*
you should have told me you didn't like me any more
but i couldn't see that and you just rushed me
although i will curse you i'll still miss you
because i am a girl, to whom love is everything

*jini* i heard that if you give up things too easily
to a man, he will get bored with you
i don't think this is wrong

*umji* a girl says that she will never be fooled again
but she will fall in love again

[chorus]

[narration] *umji*
we parted today
you said you wanted me to be happy and find a better person than you
you're just like every other man
didn't you tell me you loved me?
actually, i don't want you to be happy
what if you find a girl who's prettier than me and live happily with her
what it makes you forget me
when im hurting so much, so much i want to die
when i still love you so much...

*mini* don't take advantage of a girl's willingness to do anything for love
and her caring instinct

When that day I hear your voice (by chinese girls )

When that day I hear your voice

  I have some special feeling

Let me always think I don't wanna forget you

  I remember at the day

You are always on my mind

Eventhough I just can think about you

If the day in the future

  This love will becoming true

I've never change my mind that I will love you forever

I don't care how fool it is

I will let my dream come true

I will tell you something I wanna let you know, I let you know

I love you, loving you, as the mouse love the rice

Even every day has storm, I will always by your side

  I miss you, missing you

I don't care how hard it is

I just want you be happy

Everything, I do it for you

Invisible Wings--by Angela Chang of China

Every time I waver around, lonely but strong

Every time I never show tears, though seriously hurt.

I know I've always been equipped with a pair of invisible wings

Taking me into the air, flying over despair.

I give no thought to the fact that they have the beautiful sun

For I can see the evening sun, changing everyday

I know I've always been equipped with a pair of invisible wings

Taking me into the air, giving me hope

I've finally seen all my dreams realized

How loud and clear are the songs of the youth's pursuits

I finally take wings, carefully and fearlessly watch the wind

And fly as far as the wind can carry me

O invisible wings, let dreams be eternal and out live the sky

Leaving behind a wish, leaving it to my imagination.

Chinese Super Girl (Shang Wenjie) Attacked

China's Super Girl, Shang Wenjie is being attacked by netizens.

Shang Wenjie, a Fudan University student majoring in French, is rated as one of the top five best Chinese-French simultaneous interpreters in Shanghai.

However, apparently after publishing a Chinese poem online, with some five basic errors in nine short lines that 'even elementary school pupils don't make'...Chinese bloggers think they may have found this supergirl's weakpoint....Chinese grammar.

Oh..."If she could be one of the top five simultaneous interpreters in Shanghai, how could the French hope to communicate with the Chinese?" asks another.

But, I thought poems didn't have to follow the rules, no?

And can anyone understand the French even when you can understand them?

What difference would it make in the long run...if the girl is, well, super girl? She could just insist she is right. And if her detractors didn't like it she could fling them north beyond her fortress of solitude.

Even celebs in China can't escape the microscope, eh?

What do you think?

Chinese girl completes cross-country run amid health worries

BEIJING -- An eight-year-old girl has completed a nearly two-month trek across China, amid sharp criticism of the young prodigy's coach father for endangering her health, state media said Monday.

Zhang Huimei arrived in Beijing on Sunday after running 3,558 kilometers (2,210 miles) from the southern province of Hainan in a journey that began on July 3, the Beijing News said.

Zhang, who dreams of competing in the Beijing Olympic marathon next year, has earned headlines with strong performances in a series of long-distance races this year.

These included a full marathon in Hainan in January in which she finished second among all female contestants despite still being just seven-years-old.

Her cross-country run, which her father Zhang Jianmin said was aimed at showing her Olympic spirit, has triggered media reports expressing concern over her health and the dangers of parents pushing young athletes too hard.

"I make the training fun for her. I don't push her. She loves to run. Many people don't understand us," the 54-year-old Zhang said, according to the Beijing News.

The youngster avoided comment to reporters in the capital upon her arrival, which her father blamed for the negative reports and heckling during the run, the paper said.

Zhang, who admits his wife left him in anger for pushing the girl too hard, was questioned by reporters about a cough that has plagued the schoolgirl throughout much of her trek through six provinces.

He attributed it to some seafood she ate early in the run.

Zhang vowed to push ahead with his daughter's development as a marathoner, including a planned run early next year from the Tibetan capital of Lhasa to the eastern city of Shanghai, an even greater distance than the just-completed run.

"Whether people oppose it or not, we will soldier on," he said.

Beijing will host the 2008 Olympic Games next August.
